Biography

Lona E. McLarty, 91, passed away on Wednesday evening January 27, 2010 at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph.

Lona was born on May 28, 1918 in Pence, Indiana to Charles and Barbara (Himmelright) Conner. She resided in the Kalamazoo area for many years before moving to St. Joseph in 1998. She had previously been employed at KVP and Bellisle’s Drug Store.

Lona was known for her beautiful quilts and could sew most anything. She made many stuffed animals, knitted and crocheted. She loved to dance and play the organ, and also enjoyed bowling and golf.

Mrs. McLarty is survived by her two daughters, Carol McLarty (Timothy Trucks) of St. Joseph, MI and Patricia (Dick) Johnson of Bloomingdale, MI; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grand children and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James Henry McLarty in 1986 and her son Robert McLarty, formerly of Baldwin, MI.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Lona’s memory may do so to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
