Biography
Bernice E. Clark, 90, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away Wednesday evening, February 10, 2010 at Jordan’s Nursing Home in Bridgman, MI.
Bernice was born June 28, 1919 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to Walter and Jenny (Gilroy) Eagle and grew up on the family farm. She and Richard Clark were later married on Nov. 23, 1938 and the couple enjoyed 70 years together until Richard’s passing on February 5th of 2009.
In addition to being a wife, mother, and home maker, Bernice had worked as a bookkeeper at the family flooring store and later owned and operated the Doral Motel from 1970 – 1975. Bernice loved to crochet and was also a member of the Merrimixers in Sault Ste. Marie.
Mrs. Clark is survived by her sons, Ronald (Pennie) Clark of St. Joseph, Richard (Phyllis) Clark of West Linn, Oregon, and Ross Clark of Watervliet; daughters, Laverne Farrish of Bridgman, Grace (Leroy) Hause of Kearney, Nebraska, and Rosemary (Harry) Shuck of St. Joseph; brother Gilbert Eagle of Howell, MI; sisters Lois Moiles of Sault Ste. Marie and Waneta Graham of Brimley, MI; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Richard, sister Grace McBride, brother Walter Eagle and grandson John P. Farrish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. Visitation will be Monday from 4 – 8 pm at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma with Prayers at 7:00 pm. Following cremation, the burial of ashes will occur at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or Hospice at Home.
