Biography

Gary J. Springar, 65 of Watervliet died peacefully at home on Saturday, Feb 20, after a long, tough battle with pancreatic cancer.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held from 5 – 8 Thurs followed by a memorial service 11:00 am Friday at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Donations in memory of Gary may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Gary was born August 3, 1944 in Benton Harbor to John and Catherine (Barchett) Springer. He resided in this area his entire life and in addition to operating and maintaining the Springar Family Farms he worked as a Supervisor for Leco Corp for 40 years. Gary enjoyed fishing but was passionate about hunting and spending time at his cabin in the UP.

Survivors include his wife Nancy (Edwards) whom he married April 18, 1964, one son John (Jennifer) Springar of Coloma, a daughter Denise (Rob) Hollacher of St Joseph, his mother Catherine Springer of Watervliet, his mother-in-law Edna Edwards of St Joseph, and five grandchildren, Jessica, Katherine, Justine, and Jillian Springar, and Nicholas Hollacher. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Trudie Edwards, a brother-in-law Tom (Alice) Edwards, two nieces, 2 nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Bud Edwards.
