Biography

June Danneffel, 89, of Coloma passed away Thursday evening, February 25, 2010 at Orchard Grove Extended Care Center in Benton Harbor.

June was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on August 5, 1920 to Floyd and Clara (Stewart) Decker. She graduated from Coloma High School in 1938. June and Clarence Danneffel were united in marriage on Nov. 9, 1941. She initially worked eleven years for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a chief operator. Following that she worked for the Michigan Employment Security Commission as a claims processer for thirty years, retiring in December 1982. She was a longtime and very active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

June was very fond of cooking and baking sweet treats for the family, especially at Christmas time. She also kept a special treat drawer for the kids and their friends which she stocked with their favorite candies. June was very supportive of her grandchildren’s social, school and athletic events and a huge fan of the Cubs and the TV Weather Channel. She enjoyed bird watching and took special pleasure in watching the cardinals, hummingbirds and owls.

June is survived by her daughter, Beverly Willming of Watervliet; two brothers, Earl and Ronald Sweet; her four grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Nana”, Richard Willming, Michael (Sue) Willming, John Willming and Barbara Willming-Ezell; five great grandchildren, Rachelle, Ryan, Brittany, and Rebecka Willming and Gabby Ezell; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1991, her parents, her sister Bessie Knisely and brother David Sweet.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Coloma with Rev. Kevin McLemore presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Watervliet. Visitation will be from 2 – 3 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
