Charlene Vander Wal Streu, 87 of Coloma passed away Sunday, Dec 23, 2018 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St Joseph.

Services will be held 1 PM Friday, Dec 28 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma where visitation will begin 11 AM also on Friday.  Cremation will take place following the service.  Donations in memory of Char may be made to the North Berrien Senior Center.  Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so by using the "Guestbook" link located on this page

Char was born August 12, 1931 at home in Chicago to Charles and Jennie (Jansen) Vander Wal.  She attended Roseland Christian School and Pullman Tech High School, both in the Chicago area.  After graduation she worked for the Illinois Central Railroad.  At a home wedding on Nov 4, 1950 she married Charles E. Streu.

She loved to play baseball, playing on several teams, before she was married.  Later she did many related jobs for her husband in the Real Estate and Building business.  They also were owners of Deer Forest before retiring in 1987.  Char enjoyed going to the YWCA, knitting, and yard work but her grandchildren brought her the most joy.  You could just tell she devoted most of her whole life to her family and many friends.

Survivors include two sons; Ross (Lisa) Streu of Coloma, Kevin (Betty Mitchell) Streu of Cadillac, one brother, Dr. Raymon Vander Wal of Miami, Fla; and three grandchildren, Michelle, Tori and Tyler.  Also surviving are two daughter-in-laws Kathy and Janet Streu

In addition to her parents Char was preceded in death by her husband Charles, two sons, Scott and Charlie, two brothers, Donald Jay and Henry Vander Wal, and one sister Jean Karr.
