David T.
Freehling
Sep 16, 1951 — Jan 12, 2024
Hartford
David Timothy Freehling, 72, of Hartford, Michigan, passed away on January 12, 2024, at home with his family by his side.
Dave was raised on the family farm in Eau Claire by his parents Henry and Doris (Schlutt) Freehling and six older sisters: Betty (Walt) Davis, Mary (Richard) Whitright, Barbara (Jerry) Likes, Margret (Ron) Churchill, Nancy (Jim) White, and Hope (Jeff) Sinner. Dave remembered his early years as hard work mixed with happy times surrounded by a family that worked and played hard together. In 1989 Dave and his new wife Rebecca bought their own farm in Hartford and proudly raised their daughters, April and Olivia, there. He happily welcomed his granddaughter, Calista, in 2019.
Dave was an OTR truck driver for many years until he decided to become a produce tank yard operator so he could spend more time at home with his kids and cattle.
When not working he enjoyed baling hay for his Scottish Highland cows, watching action movies, and spending time with his friend John going to farm auctions to find equipment they didn't need but had a good time looking at anyway. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting Hope and Jeff at the casinos, going to concerts, and meeting friends for breakfast. Much as he loved his family, Dave was always happiest when he was on his tractor or fixing it.
David is survived by his wife, daughters, granddaughter, favorite sister Hope and Jeff, brother-in-law Marc (Denise) Hettig, and some well-loved nieces and nephews.
Cremation has occurred. The burial will be this spring during the first cutting of hay season.
