Duane A. Umphrey, 79, of Benton Harbor, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, May 7 at Millburg Christian Church of which he was a member.  Donations in his memory may be made to the church.  Those wishing to leave an online message of comfort for the family may do so by selecting the link on this page.

Duane was born May 6, 1937 in Benton Harbor to Spencer and Frances (Hall) Umphrey. He was employed by Crown Cork and Seal Company for 30 years until retirement on October 1, 1996.  Following retirement, he delivered for Ridge and Kramer with his son for a few years and took care of his ladies at True Love Roses. Duane was in the Naval Reserve for eight years, loved NASCAR racing, going to the casino and mushroom hunting.

He is survived by a daughter Linda Westfall and two sons David and Darren Umphrey, all of Benton Harbor.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Todd Grassow, Amy (Ryan) Williamson, Julia, Hailey and Spencer Umphrey; three great grandchildren Kendra L. Gillan, Kynlee DeKeyser, and Cameron Hess; with one great grandchild on the way, due in October, along with many lifelong friends.

In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2013 and his sister and brother-in-law Joanne and Lindsay Rutter.
