Earl Gene Golden, 92 of South Haven formerly of Coloma, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, March 4 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma where visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Memorial donations in Gene's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. Gene was born December 15, 1927, to the late Earl and Nell Golden in Ashley, Ill. His family moved to Covert when he was 13 years old. Gene graduated from Covert High School in May of 1945. He worked for the CSX Railroad in Benton Harbor from June of 1945 to January 1946 while attending LMC as one of the first students when it was located behind Benton Harbor High School. Gene joined the Army in January of 1946 and was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska where he was the company clerk. Following his service in the military, he went back to work for CSX Railroad where he spent the next 38 years working in various areas around Southwest Michigan. He married his wife Lovella Wick in August 1975 and were part of the Hits and Mrs. Square Dance Club for 20 years. They became snow birds for many years, pulling their travel trailer to many fun destinations with their good square dance friends. Gene was a member of the First Congregational Church in Covert and also a lifetime member of the St. Joseph Masonic Lodge #437. Since the passing of his "Lovie" in 2008, Gene resided in the home they shared in Coloma until moving to River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven, seven years ago.

Gene is survived by his step-daughter Paulette (Patrick) McCarty, grandsons Ryan (Quebeca) McCarty, Corey (Brianna) McCarty and great grandchildren Annabelle, Daphne and Grayson McCarty.
