Estelle May
Smith
Mar 14, 1920 — Nov 23, 2018
Estelle (Peg) Smith was born March 14, 1920 to Daniel and Lola Davis in Logansport, Ind., and died on Nov. 23, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles E. Smith, in 1979; and 12 siblings. Peg was the youngest child in her family.
Peg was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is remembered with considerable fondness by her friends and family for her strength and love of them all. She was a homemaker, writer and an avid reader. Several years ago, she read her spiritual testament to her family, and it was found in her handwriting in her Bible: "How seldom do we realize that we are just guests in this old world and that our bodies are but the earthly homes of our souls, which we stay in only a number of years called 'time.' But this I do know, that the person within, the real me, when I have moved out of my earthly dwelling, will move into a new world, a new dimension, a higher new world, a higher level, and I will step upward until I am once again united with my creator."
Estelle (Peg) Smith is survived by her sons: Nelson Henderson (Lucinda), Stevensville, and Richard L. Smith (Marilynn), Bogart, Ga,; her daughter, Beverly Smith Burgess, St. Joseph; 10 grandchildren: Joyce (Ken) Lindemann, Watervliet; Tim (Alicia) Burgess, Watervliet; Heather (Keith) Henson, Paw Paw; Andrew Henderson, Bridgman; Charles (Lisa) Smith, Tucker, Ga.; Michael (Jennifer) Smith, Gainesville, Ga.; Debra Guardino and Tina Dillard, both Tennessee; Samantha Henderson, Stevensville; Meredith Krugh, St. Joseph. Peg is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Except for a brief stay in Florida and Kalkaska, Mich., she lived in the Stevensville and St Joseph areas her entire life. At her death, she was a resident of Royalton Manor.
Duffield and Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma is handling her arrangements. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the home of Beverly Burgess on Dec. 29. Although final arrangements have not yet been made, interment will be in Kalkaska.
