Evelyn (Valle) Smith, 88, of Benton Harbor, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 15, 2016.

Evelyn was born in Benton Harbor on February 9, 1928, to Henry and Pauline (Esconritas) Valle, and attended Benton Harbor schools.  She is survived by her husband, Emery Smith, her brother Frank Valle of Benton Harbor, and her children Rita M. Klann of Coloma, Robin H. Smith of Benton Harbor, Theresa R. Smith of South Haven, and Scott E. (Theresa) Smith of Lawrence.  She is the loving grandmother of Robert (Kerri)Hayes, Jr., Derek (Stacy) Hayes, Joseph (Jenni) Hayes and Ryan, Zachary and Kaleb Smith, and great grandmother of Paeton, Kaia, Quin, Aaron, Devan, Corbin, Hunter, Dillon and Savannah Hayes.  She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Charmaine (Klann) Hayes, and her other siblings.  Evelyn was the youngest girl in a family of fifteen children.  Being surrounded by love and family her entire life, Evelyn was the personification of the love and caring everyone would hope to have in a mother. In addition to these qualities, perhaps one of her most enduring was a tremendous sense of humor.  She loved to laugh and spent many hours laughing with her family.  Everything about Evelyn will greatly missed by her family who loved her deeply.
