Helen
Sinclair
May 6, 1920 — Feb 6, 2016
Helen P. Sinclair, 95 of Hartford died Saturday, Feb 6, 2016 at her residence.
She was born May 6, 1920 in Lansing, Michigan to Hubert and Helen (Emery) Pratt. In 1941 she married Jack C. Sinclair and they were lifetime companions until his death in 2011. She is survived by two sons, Peter (Judy) of Hartford and David (Debbie) of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren Mike Sinclair, Kelly (Randy) Springer, Scott (Kim) Sinclair and Robin Sinclair along with five great grandchildren.
Helen graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in foods and nutrition. After graduation, she went to work for Consumers Power Co. presenting cooking schools to teach women how to use the new gas ranges. Following her marriage, she moved to Ann Arbor and during the early years of WWII provided lunches for children whose mothers were working in the war factories.
In 1945 she and her husband formed Sinclair Publications (now Sinclair Graphics) and purchased The Day Spring weekly newspaper in Hartford. She wrote a column "Scratch Pad" in the newspaper for many years.
Always active in community affairs, she "led the charge" for lights on the football field which is now part of the little league complex. She was a big advocate of women's rights before it was the political thing to do.
She was a life member of Eastern Star No. 119, a member of the Hartford Mothers Club, past member of the Van Buren Red Cross board and honorary member of the Hartford Fire Department.
Private service will be held. Memorial donations may be given to the Hartford Lions Club, Box 633, Hartford, MI 49057. Arrangements are entrusted to Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma.
