On Thursday, November 23rd Jesse's six month battle with cancer ended. He was surrounded by family as he passed away peacefully at home.

Jesse lived life to the fullest and he brought energy and enthusiasm wherever he went. He was also well-known for his sense of humor. Even when he was sick and in pain he was still making jokes. One of his biggest passions from a young age was baseball. Whether it was playing the game himself or rooting for his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs. Jesse loved his family dearly, especially his grandkids Jude and Lucy. Being a grandpa was one of his greatest joys. Jude and Jesse always said they were each other's best friends and they loved hanging out together. He made friends wherever he went and we couldn't go anywhere without him running into someone he knew.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place at North Shore Memory Gardens.

Jesse is survived by his wife Hattie; daughter Ashli (Robert) Freeman of Walkerton, Ind., son Jesse Scruggs Jr. of Benton Harbor; his father James Neal Scruggs of Coloma; his brother Jeffery Scruggs of Berrien Springs; two grandchildren, Jude and Lucy; stepchildren  Raine Tuttle, Cameron Tuttle and Skylar Tuttle; and his life long friend Josh Blakeslee.

Jesse was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Scruggs.
