Jewel E. Vaughn, 94, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2026, in Holland, Michigan, with family by her side.

A celebration of Jewel’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 17, at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. There will be no graveside services. Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so at www.duffieldpastrick.com.

Jewel was born June 1, 1932, in Harrisburg, Arkansas, to Lois (Thomas) Teague and Vealer Teague. Later, Lois married Dan Powers, who raised Jewel and her two sisters, Betty and Pearl, as his own daughters. Lois and Dan had seven more children, making a family of ten children.

Jewel retired from Heath Zenith in St. Joseph after more than 25 years of service. Outgoing, kind, and generous, she had a warmth that drew people to her and made them feel at ease. Everyday connections often grew into lifelong friendships. She remained active well into her nineties, enjoying outings and time spent with the many friends who held a special place in her heart. She was graceful and always well put together. She enjoyed a good steak, a good cup of coffee, and good conversation.

She loved taking photographs and was an avid genealogist, researching her family’s history since the 1990s. Tech-savvy well into her nineties, she stayed connected with family and friends through texts and photos on her iPhone. Above all, she loved her family and treasured her friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Anders; son-in-law, Denny Shelton Sr.; brother, JD (Diane) Powers; and two sisters, Pat Rau and Carolyn Carnahan. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Rebecca (Tosh) Struwin, Denny Shelton Jr., Nicole (Steve) Little, Tracie (Phillip) Malburg, Ashley Anders, and Derrik (Jessica) Anders; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Vaughn, in 1998; daughter, Susie Shelton; son, Terry Vaughn; son-in-law, Jim Anders; granddaughter, Cynthia Liambach; great-granddaughter, Claire Struwin; two sisters; and four brothers.
