John D. Burfield, 43, of Hartford, passed away on November 11, 2018 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph .

A Memorial Visitation will take place at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma on Thursday, November 15 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. with prayers and family tributes beginning at 7:00 P.M. Memorial donations in John's memory may be made to the Hartford Council for Recreation. John was born December 3, 1974 in St. Joseph to Norman J.  and Judith (Frye) Burfield. He was currently employed by Griffin Tool and previously by Pullman Industries and Wolverine Metal Stamping.  John had a passion for anything outdoors including hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed working in the yard with his grandson DJ and always went to his children's events no matter the distance. He also enjoyed drinking cheladas, fireball and attending  biker rallies with friends. John was a member of the IDPA, Van Buren Sportsman's Club and USPSA where he loved to shoot with a slew of his shooting buddies in many different places.  John's most important passion in life was spending time with his wife and kids and being the best family man he could be. If you knew him, you knew how he felt about you.

John is survived by his wife of 26 years Nichoel; his three children Alexandria (Doug) Whitsel, John Burfield II and Mackenzie Burfield; his mother Judith Nearn; siblings Cindy Lee Fairbanks, Jody Nearn, Willie Nearn Jr., Nora (Juan) Burfield, Norman Burfield Jr. and Cindy Lou Oneill; and his grandson DJ Whitsel. Also surviving are his father and mother in law Hartley (Patricia) Collins; brother in laws Hartley (Teresa) Collins Jr. and Todd (Holly Nadin) Curtis and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded by his grandma Grams, father Norman, step father Willie Nearn Sr., his dog Fatboy, his beloved Cole-Man and many other close friends.


So much of the good in me came from you. When my own dad wasn't there throughout my childhood you stepped up and guided me, taught me, and loved me. Every quality I have in me as a father I learned from you. You taught me the values of hard work, dedication, generosity, loyalty, love and family. You had the biggest heart, the warmest smile and the world is darker now without your light. I pray that I can be there for yours the way you were for me. I love you so much. I pray we can all find some kind of peace knowing today you walked into heaven's gates only to hear God say to you what I've heard you so lovingly say so many times to so many people, "You are welcome to anything in my house."
