Lucrecia B. Tarpey, was one of three daughters who were raised by Abel and Maria Borjas.  She was predeceased by her parents Abel and Maria as well as her elder sisters Esperanza and Olga.  She was also predeceased by her husband Francis.  She grew up in San Antonio, Texas.  Loving wife, mother, sister, and friend passed from this life on Friday, January 23, 2026.  She attended Incarnate Word College in San Antonio where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry in 1953.  After school she started working for Harshaw Chemical in Cleveland which was involved in the manufacture of Uranium chemicals.  She then began to work for Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Illinois which produces pharmaceuticals. Lucrecia was active in the Church through an organization called the Young Christian Workers.  It was through this organization that she met her pursuer Francis.  She liked him but put him off for four years before accepting his marriage proposal.  They were married October 10, 1964 and had two sons, Francis and Javier.

As technology changed the world, so did Abbott Laboratories.  In the late 1980s, when HIV became a worldwide affliction, Lucrecia was working in the Advance Diagnostic Division where the team worked tirelessly to sequence the strains of the virus HIV1/HIV2.  This led to the development of the diagnostic test to identify the virus in a patient.

Lucrecia leaves behind her sons Francis and Javier, Javier's wife Stacey and three grandchildren, Cimarron, Blake, and Vivian, as well her nieces and nephews in San Antonio Leticia, George, and Patricia.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be planned for a later date.
