Obituary

Mary E. McCune, 88, of Coloma passed away July 7, 2016, at Woodland Terrace of Paw Paw Lake in Coloma.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 10 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Services and burial will follow later in Newcomerstown, Ohio. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the North Berrien Senior Center where she was an active part of the Artists Guild. Mary was born April 29, 1928, in Newcomerstown, Ohio to Clifford and Bessie (Reinhart) Schumacher. She met and married George McCune in 1946, residing 24 years in Chesapeake, Va., while he served in the Navy and she taught English at Great Bridge High School. They then moved to East Haddam, Conn., until George's passing. She later moved to a 40 acre farm in Newcomerstown with her 14 year old daughter.

Mary's cooking was legendary and her grandchildren always looked forward to her homemade bread. She enjoyed teaching quilting classes and sewing to the extent she made wedding dresses for her daughters. She also loved to travel whether it be to Kenya or the Galapagos Islands where she took swimming lessons in her sixties just to go snorkeling. When her son retired she continued traveling around the country with him in his RV.

Survivors include her son, George (Helene) McCune, Jr. of Fresno, Ohio; daughters: Margaret ( Gordon Geno) Partain of Chesapeake, Va., and Maria (Martin) Tallman of Coloma. She is also survived by two sisters: Helen Arth of Redlands, Calif.,, Melvene Juergens of Durham, N.C., nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn McCune.
