Maurice "Skip" Schinck, 71 of Coloma passed away Friday, January 6 at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.

A service with military honors celebrating his life will be 11:00 am Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home where visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 pm.  Burial will follow at Harris Cemetery in Hagar Township.  Donations in memory of Skip may be made to the North Berrien Firefighters Association.  Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so by using the "Guestbook" link located on this page.

Skip was born October 11, 1945 in Chicago, ILL  to Octave "Ace" and Elizabeth "Betty" (VanOost) Schinck. He vacationed in Michigan with his family and became a full-time resident to the Lake Michigan Beach area in 1958. Skip went to Coloma High School and became a state qualifier in 1964 for wrestling. After graduation Skip went to the Naval Academy in Chicago and was a mechanic. He spent many hours and money at Ashley Ford as their certified manager of service. After the Navy he worked for his father at Ace Garage. Skip and Ace established the Hagar Fire and Ambulance Service which is now known as the North Berrien Fire Department. Skip was an EMT, fire fighter and Fire Chief for many years. He was credited with saving people and delivering many babies in his service on the Fire Department. Skip later bought Ace Garage from his father in 1989, and was the registered Diesel Mechanic for Coloma Community Schools for over 40 years, retiring in 2010. Skip also served as a Hagar Township Trustee for over 20 years. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports or dance. He enjoyed Michigan Football and watching anything to do with cars.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl Schinck (Rendell),whom he married September 10, 1966; three daughters; Kim (Terry) Derrick, Cynthia (David) LaGrow, Carrie (Boyce) Littlefield, grandchildren; TJ, Brooke, Paige, Caleb, Cameron, Emma, MaKayla, Miles and Maurissa and special nieces and nephews; Billy and Krissy Tohtz and Michael and Sherri Ulleg.
