Obituary

Milburn "Mel" Burchfield, 96, of Hartford, formerly of Newport, Ark. passed away Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Willows in St. Joseph.

Due to COVID-19, a service celebrating his life for family and friends, both of Michigan and Arkansas, will be held at a later date when restrictions permit.  Donations in memory of Mel may be forwarded to the family in care of his daughter, Marney Santo, 121 South Street, Lawrence,  MI  49064.  Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so by using the "Guestbook" link located on this page.

Mel was born January 30, 1924 in Jacksonport, Arkansas to Jesse and Ruth (Warren) Burchfield.  He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.  Mel, also known as "Fuzzy", loved fishing, going to auctions and was the owner of Fuzzy's Bargain Barn.  He lived in Michigan until 1983 and then moved to Arkansas where he resided before returning to Michigan in May of 2020.  He often remarked he was going to live to be 100 and almost made it.  He will be laid to rest back in Arkansas at a later date.

Survivors include three sons; Ron (Pam) Burchfield of Bangor, Kevin Burchfield of Hartford, Doug (Melvina) Burchfield of Hartford; and one daughter, Marney (Thomas) Santo of Lawrence.  Also surviving is one sister Nina Jones of Hartford, one grandchild, and five great grandchildren.

Mel was preceded in death by his brother Jack Burchfield, sisters Monnie Grimes and Agnes Moore all of Arkansas, and a granddaughter Hali Burchfield of Hartford.
