On Friday, March 18, 2022, Richard Milton Long, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 86.
Richard was born on April 27, 1935, in Luthersburg, PA, to Amos Jacob Long and Mildred Emma (Anthony) Long. After graduating from DuBois Area High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1962. On July 15, 1961, he married Marie Anne Seyler, the love of his life, whom he met square dancing. They raised one daughter, Amy.
Early in his life, Richard worked on the Pennsylvania railroad and as a Volkswagen mechanic and salesman. In 1970, he became a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from the USPS in 1992.
Richard was a lifelong learner who was interested in people and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, traveling, and crossword puzzles. He was always reading and had an encyclopedic knowledge of many subjects, which he was always happy to share.
In 2014, he moved to Coloma, MI, where he became an active member of the Riverside United Methodist Church and a regular at the North Berrien Senior Center.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, and his brother, Terry. He is survived by his daughter Amy, his granddaughter, Cassandra, his brother, Gary, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at noon, April 27, 2022, at the Riverside United Methodist Church, 4365 Fikes Rd, Benton Harbor, MI, 49022. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Richard's name may be made to the Riverside United Methodist Church.
