Richard G.
Matheny
Apr 3, 1944 — Dec 20, 2025
Richard Gene Matheny, Sr. was born on April 3, 1944, in Manila, Arkansas, to Orville and Emmie Matheny. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 20, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
On November 30, 1962, Richard married Lydia Watson, beginning a marriage that became the foundation of a loving family. Together, they raised three children. Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Linda.
Richard is also survived by his children: Cindy (Thom) Jones; Richard Matheny, Jr.; and Brian (Kim) Matheny. He was a proud grandfather to four grandsons—Rick, Matthew, Zach, and Elijah—and three granddaughters—Amanda, Taylor, and Mackenzie. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy. Richard is also survived by his sister, Jean Matheny.
Richard had a deep foundation in God, and his faith was the cornerstone of his life. It guided his decisions, shaped his values, and carried him through every season. He loved taking family vacations and could often be found tinkering around the house on never-ending projects, always fixing, building, or improving something for the people he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Emmie Matheny, and his brother, Tom Matheny.
Richard will be remembered for his steady faith, his gentle heart, and his unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion that will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew him. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing he is now at peace and in the presence of the Lord.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord."
— Matthew 25:23
