Shirley Jean Brooks, 67, of Covert, passed away Sunday morning, March 10, 2019 at her home with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Living Word Church of God in Coloma followed by burial at Watervliet City Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Shirley was born July 27, 1951 in Coloma to James and Nellie (Hogue) Kelley. Several years after graduating high school, she and James Brooks were married on Nov. 27, 1971 and the couple began raising their family of three daughters. Shirley had been employed previously at both Midwest Timers and Modern Plastics. In 1998 she became a licensed minister with the Church of God. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband James; her daughters Sherrie (Scott) Boo of Watervliet, Tammy (Doug) Gatchel of Newkirk, Okla, and Catherine Brooks of Watervliet; her brother Cecil (Pam) Kelley of Hermosa, S.D.; her sister Anita Turner of Grand Haven; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nellie Kelley; and her brother Rondall Kelley.
