Shirley Ann (McAndrew) Martin, 78, of Watervliet, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023, in the presence of her loving family while at home.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 19th at Duffield & Pastrick Funeral Home in Coloma, Michigan, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Freedom Church.

Shirley was born at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on June 26, 1944, to William and Ester McAndrew. She was a proud Class of 1962 graduate of Benton Harbor High School. Shirley met the love of her life, Jerry, while working at V-M Corporation in Benton Harbor. She worked in the tone arms department across the aisle from Jerry, who was a stock boy in the record department. Despite meeting as teenagers at V-M, the two only began dating in June of 1969 after Jerry's service in the U.S. Army ended. They married on October 18, 1969. Together, they welcomed two children, Jay and Gina, and celebrated 53 years of marriage. During her career, Shirley worked at Whirlpool on the paint line and as a bus driver for Watervliet Public Schools for 16 years.

Shirley's greatest loves were her family and her church. She was a longtime member of Apostolic Tabernacle on Greenly Avenue in Benton Harbor and New Freedom Church on Mountain Road in Coloma and enjoyed singing.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; son Jay (Barb) Martin of Watervliet; daughter Gina Gilliland of Hartford; brother Theo (Sharon) McAndrew of Bangor; sister Corine (Dave) Howard of Hartford; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents William and Ester; brothers Charles McAndrew, Doil McAndrew, and Henry "Hank" McAndrew; sister Eunice Holland; son-in-law Ron Gilliland; and granddaughter Kayla Gilliland.
