With great sadness we announce the passing of Terry L. Ridge, 76 on November 2, 2015 at his home with family, friends, and his best buddy Benji laying by his side. Terry fought cancer for a year, his bravery and positive outlook kept us all in good spirits. He never missed a chance to get in a joke or even make one at his own expense. He was born February 26, 1939 in Manila, Arkansas and grew up in Coloma. In his younger years he was involved in coaching little league and girls softball. He loved to fish and watch Nascar. He enjoyed watching the Lions, Tigers, and Michigan but there was never any doubt that his favorite team was the Coloma Comets. He was thrilled when his grandsons were able to play for them just like he did and he would let you know that they were going to win. He was a big animal lover and throughout the years he had many pets but the last two that stole his heart were Benji and Sassy and they loved to be near him. He also loved going to Florida and spending his winters there whenever possible. Terry worked for Indiana & Michigan Electric for 25 years and retired to work on his blueberry farm in Grand Junction for 15 years and he was very proud of his accomplishments. For over 40 years Terry and his wife Marylyn continued to find themselves always being drawn back together and it was never more apparent why until this last year. The love, compassion and gratitude that we were able to witness was a beautiful thing and something that was just meant to be. This last year was a hard one but a special one. Many of us were able to spend quality time at home with him sitting out on the deck overlooking the beautiful yard and just having great conversation. He would just smile and say how happy he was and how much he loved sitting out there. Terry is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, his children Jim (Sue) Ridge of Coloma, Michelle (Paul) Saltzman of Coloma, Staci (Allen) Summerer of Plainwell, stepchildren Jackie (Keith) Cotman-Middleton of Bainbridge, Chip Cotman of Michigan City, and Kelly Cotman of Watervliet. Grandchildren Patrick Ridge, Nicholas Ridge, Jason Ridge, Ryan Saltzman, Andrew Saltzman, Colin Saltzman, Noah Lawson, Bree Lawson, Truman Summerer, Evander Summerer, Senica Smith and one great granddaughter Zoe Smith. Terry also had two special friends that were there for him and our family, Terri Moore and Sharon Zordan He is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Lura and Church Houston, his father William Ridge, brothers Don Ridge and Robert (Carol) Ridge and his stepdaughter Tonda Cotman. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 19th at 11 a.m. at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice At Home.
