Theresa “Terry” M. Van Pelt, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at her home in Coloma.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. The family will receive friends beginning at 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Terry’s memory may be made to the North Berrien Senior Center. Terry was born April 16, 1932 in Harvey, Illinois to Walter and Bernice Zysk.

She was a hairdresser and owned her own shop before marrying Leonard Van Pelt on July 17, 1965. The couple owned the Red Snapper Tavern in Oak Forest, Illinois and then moved to Michigan where they opened and ran the Last Resort and Coloma Bar and Grill.

Terry had a love for, flower gardening, watching the birds, and doing word searches. She especially enjoyed playing cards and spending time surrounded by family and friends. She also enjoyed volunteering at the North Berrien Senior Center. Terry will be remembered for her humor, her love of family and friends, and the warmth she brought to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and the memories shared around the “Cougar Palace” for years to come. Terry truly was the heart of her family.

Terry is survived by her children Kimberly Van Pelt, Lisa Van Pelt, Thomas Van Pelt and Pattilynn Van Pelt; grandchildren Cody Palgen, Olivia Palgen, Liliana Palgen, Luke Dubs, Courtney Jager, Zachary Dubs, Logan Dubs, Abraham Dubs, Emily Serna, Delanie Van Pelt and Jessica Van Pelt; 18 great grandchildren and nieces Pat Stucke, Donna Kida, Michelle Gower, and Melissa Lovell.

In addition to her parents, Terry is preceded in death by her husband Leonard, granddaughter Brittany Dubs, niece Judy Lundell, nephew Richard Jurek, and siblings John Zysk and Lillian Jurek.
