The family would like to thank the staff of Woodland Terrace and Caring Circle for their compassion, care, and love shown to Vonda and her family during this very difficult journey. She was always treated with dignity and respect.
Vonda was born Oct. 3, 1932 in Parkersburg, ILL to Cloella and George Bicanich. She married the love of her life, Don Johnson on Feb. 24, 1951 in Chicago. They spent 69 loving years together as constant companions, enjoying life and raising their family. She was very close to her son, Don, and daughter, Sue. Her fondness for her grandchildren could never be rivaled. She was very proud of all their accomplishments and loved spending time with them. Her life was also enriched by three great grandchildren whom she showered with affection.
Vonda worked at New Products Corporation, Benton Harbor, in payroll and computers, for 37 years, retiring in 1997. She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Coloma, where she ushered, served as the church treasurer, and volunteered her services for various functions.
Vonda took pride in her yard and garden. Watching plants grow and flowers bloom were enjoyable to her. In the winter, the antics of the squirrels and birds, at the many feeders, kept her amused. She loved to bake and give "goodies" away to her appreciative family and friends. She was a computer "nerd" and spent hours on the internet, mostly visiting with family and friends.
Vonda is survived and mourned by her loving and devoted husband, Don; her son, Donald Johnson of Wayne, Mich., and daughter Susan (Larry) Weeks of St. Joseph; four grandchildren, Chad (Katie) Weeks, of Chelsea, Mich., Krystle (Greg) Winnell of Berrien Center, Michael (Noor) Johnson of South Lyon, Mich., and Kimberly Michelle Johnson of Boulder, Colo; great grandchildren, Zofia Weeks, Chelsea, Mich., Taylor Winnell, Nashville, Tenn., and Austin Winnell, Berrien Center; sister-in-law Betty Bicanich of St Joseph; brother-in-law Roy (Laura) Johnson of Oak Lawn, Ill; sister-in-law Nancy Kase of Lake Zurich, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
Vonda was preceded in death by her parents, Cloella and Michael Antonelli and George and Edna Bicanich; a brother George Bicanich; her mother -in-law, Nancy Johnson and her husband Roy; sister-in-law, Doris Ciofalo and her husband John; brother-in-law Stan Kase and nephews David Kase and Tom Ciofalo.
