Obituary

Wesley V. Hazen, Sr. 71, of Coloma passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, after an 18 month battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Benton Harbor to Ruth (Woods) and Sylvester Hazen. He retired from I & M Electric Company as a lineman supervisor after 35 years of service. Wes was an avid, serious hunter taking trophy game in Alaska, Mexico, the Arctic, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alberta, Newfoundland and many US states. He took pride in animal conservation and preservation and was always eager to show his trophy room to anyone who enjoyed and understood the sport. During the last few years, Wes had become a dedicated NASCAR fan. Per his wishes cremation has taken place. A family and friends memorial gathering will be 1 pm Sat, Dec 5th at Wes's home. Anyone wishing to do so can make donations to Grace Christian School, Watervliet. Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so by using the "Guestbook" link located on this page. Surviving are his wife, Darlene (Walton); sons Wes and Christopher of Benton Harbor, sister, Carolyn Bolin, and several nieces and nephews. His grandson, Michael Hazen, Coloma, was the love of his life. The two enjoyed hunting, target shooting, 4-wheeling, robotics, and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne Hazen. A heartfelt thank you goes to all Wes's friends and neighbors who helped him during the last 18 months, to the staff and doctors at the University of Chicago Medical Center and Lakeland Hospital, and to his dedicated care team from Hospice at Home who were always there when needed.
